lazy saturday

what a nice day today. the sun came out and upon waking up, i was greeted by the dripping of melting snow and ice. i set out around 2pm this afternoon to find some breakfast. my usual saturday afternoon spot is the waffle house counter on filmore. i ordered a waffle, two slices of sausage, and a small glass of orange juice. i don't know what it is, but i usually arrive at the tail end of a rush and as soon as i get my food, half the people in the place have left.

my favorite grill cook was working again today. another quirk about me is that i have a special affection for lesbians. and just so nobody gives me a hard time, she announced to the whole restaurant that she was a lesbian the first time i was there.

after my delicious breakfast, i spent the rest of the afternoon in starbucks reading a book called "a sideways look at time". it's really a fascinating book, although i get the feeling it's not so much a novel as a collection of essays. one of the main themes of the book is how we take for granted our measurement of time. the gregorian calendar vs. the julian calendar vs. the chinese calendar vs. anyone else's caldenar. daylight savings vs. standard time. why GMT? why not some other place in the world? the author argues that imperialism forced two major things upon indigenous people: religion and time. way to go arizona for refusing to participate in daylight savings. as for me, i haven't worn a watch since i lost my last one in the philippines. besides, i'm late everywhere i go regardless.

i came home before sunset and fussed around with what started as my silly beatboxing recording. it's become something that reminds me of moses crossing the desert. i'm not sure what to do with it or how long i'll work on it. so far it's been pretty fun though.

afterwards, i set out for buffalo wild wings for some dinner. i met a guy named john at the bar who gave me this advice about blackjack: insurance is a sucker's bet. wise words john. 66oz of beer later, i closed out my tab and went home. all in all, not a bad day.
